I am running for the House of Representatives as a non-partisan and am not a professional politician.

I am a native Californian and love the East Bay.  I went to Stanford for college even though I was told "they don't take Negroes there."  I earned my MD at UCSF, completed my residency at Harvard, taught at Johns Hopkins Medical School in the Department of Anesthesiology and Critical Care Medicine, and have been in private practice where I have worked at a major trauma center.  I then earned a law degree from University of California, Berkeley Law School. During school, I worked at the National Health Law Project. While at a major law firm, I also worked on the Parole Board.

I became involved in politics in high school, fighting Prop 14 (that wanted to return unfair housing).  Forty years of the same tired, ineffective federal policies have not improved our children's futures.  The high school drop-out rate remains shamefully high, out of wedlock pregnancies has more than tripled since 1965, and crime in our district is out of control.

Currently, the bloated "overhead" in the federal government is eating up our hard-earned tax dollars. California only receives 78 cents back for every dollar we send to Washington, much less than the majority of the other states.  Out-moded legislation, regulations, and agencies need to be examined to determine whether they are solving the problems for which they were designed. Additionally, they need to be assessed for unintended consequences.

Now I am in a position where I can give my full attention helping our children receive a quality education focusing on locally-based innovations so they will be self-reliant, get good jobs, and contribute to safe, secure, and stable communities.  After all, the best social welfare program is a good job!

There is more that unites us than divides us.  I am a "No Party Preference" candidate who is tired of career politicians blinded by partisanship passing laws they have not read.  I want to follow JFK's advice: "Let us not seek the Republican answer nor the Democratic answer, but the right answer."
