Piedmont's hometown freestyle skier K.C. Oakley is aiming to make the U.S. ski team for the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia, and NBC Bay Area takes a look at her training sessions in photos and video. See the complete NBC report here. You can also read more about Oakley's efforts in this recent Piedmont Patch post and on her RallyMe webpage.

Penrose, the new restaurant from Charlie Hallowell, owner of Boot & Shoe Service right across the street on Grand Avenue, got a great write-up and lots of photos from Eater SF.just before the bar and grill's scheduled opening last Friday. Read the Eater SF report here.

Piedmont's annual Tree Lighting Ceremony will take place in the main park near Piedmont Community Center at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 4, according to an announcement from the Piedmont Beautification Foundation. Members of the community are invited to attend this cherished event. As in past years, Christmas caroling will be presented by the Piedmont High School octet "The Troubadours," and warm cider will be offered by the Piedmont Council of Boy Scouts. Santa and his elves will make a visit! They will receive all who have been good this year in Piedmont Community Center as soon as the tree is lighted.
