Restaurant Watch: Changes on Piedmont Avenue

News of new, rumored and veteran eateries along Piedmont Ave.

Homestead, a new family-style restaurant from Camino veteran Fred and Elizabeth Sassen, will open in early August in the former Zatis space at 4029 Piedmont Ave., Oakland, according to the restaurant's Facebook page.

BayWolf, at 3853 Piedmont Ave., will celebrate its 38th anniversary in September with a "double duck" dinner on Sept. 22, 23 and 24. Duck is a Bay Wolf specialty, and early reservations are advised.

Chow, the popular family-friendly restaurant with locations in Lafayette, Danville and San Francisco, hopes to open a Piedmont Avenue site by 2014, according to a Diablo Dish article a few weeks ago. A Chow spokesperson wouldn't confirm details for Piedmont Patch but said the restaurant may have an announcement next month.

Local Cafe, the friendly, cheerful and organic spot at 4395 Piedmont Ave., has closed less than two years after it opened, despite its popularity with many local diners. The East Bay Express reports that Slicer Pizzeria hopes to open in that space by September, with a seasonal menu.
