Man Seriously Wounded in Piedmont Avenue Shooting Early This Morning

The shooting occurred shortly after midnight.

A man who was shot on Piedmont Avenue early this morning is in serious condition at a local hospital, an Oakland Police Department spokesman said.

The shooting occurred shortly after midnight outdoors in the 3700 block of Piedmont Avenue, Officer Reggie Brown said.

The investigation is continuing, with police still on the scene about 4 a.m. today, he said.

It is the second shooting within a week on that block, which is just above West MacArthur Boulevard.

Last Saturday, Oct. 26, a man was shot and wounded as he left Egbert Souse's, a bar at 3758 Piedmont Ave. A nearby car was also hit by gunfire in that incident.

At a meeting with Oakland police and city officials in August, neighborhood residents complained that gunshots, loud arguments and suspected drug dealing are frequent problems outside Egbert Souse's.
