Police Blotter: Burglars Break Some Windows, DUI Arrest

And on the animal front: stolen or escaped dog, cat in a tree, injured crow.

Incidents highlighted in the blotter were recorded in the Piedmont Police Department log from noon on May20 through noon, May 24. Not all incidents recorded in the log are included here. Information was supplied by the police and does not indicate any convictions.

MONDAY, MAY 20
Vandalism — A home on Moraga Avenue was egged twice, once over the weekend and again on Monday. The resident asked for extra police patrols during after-school hours.
TUESDAY, MAY 21

Possible burglary attempt — Police checked out a report from an alarm company that a rear window of a home on Hillside Avenue had been broken at 12:50 p.m. Officers reported that it appears burglars made unsuccessful attempts to gain entry to the home through two different windows.

WEDNESDAY, MAY 22

Suspicious circumstances — A caller advised police that a man was trying the door handles of vehicles parked on Hillside Avenue just before 6 a.m. Police were unable to locate the man.

Cat in a tree — A caller reported about 9 a.m. that a cat had been stuck in a tree since  7 p.m. the previous night. The feline was, however gone by the time an animal control officer arrived a few minutes later.

Fraud — A Bonita Avenue resident reported fraudulent use of a credit card.

Property for destruction — An Ashmount Avenue resident turned in firearms for destruction about 12:30 p.m.

Residential burglary — Police responding to a 6:52 p.m. alert from an alarm company about a home on Ronada Avenue found a smashed rear window but no burglar present. They did, though, get a description of a possible suspect. City public works staff boarded up the window until the residents could return.

THURSDAY, MAY 23

Injured bird — An animal control officer picked up an injured crow near the corner of Jerome and Magnolia avenues about 9:20 a.m.

DUI arrest — A female driver was arrested on suspicion of driving while intoxicated after a rear-end accident at Highland and Vista avenues aout 4:20 p.m. that involved three vehicles. At least one person complained of pain following the collision. The arrested driver was taken to the Glenn Dyer Detention Facility in Oakland.

Petty theft — A license plate was reported stolen from a vehicle parked on Sharon Avenue at 7:50 p.m.

FRIDAY, MAY 24
Arrest — Police detained and searched a man on probation near the intersection of Brandon and Rose avenues shortly before 3 a.m. The man was subsequently arrested for a drug-related violation and taken to the Gleen Dyer Detention Facility in Oakland.

Stolen or escaped dog — A woman reported shortly before 11:30 a.m. that her Australian shepherd had been stolen from her vehicle while it was in a parking lot on Highland Avenue. The dog was found by a local citizen at a park about an hour later and was reunited with its owner.
