Police Blotter: Burglars Steal Jewelry, Old Windows

Crime in Piedmont, Sept. 9-13.

Incidents highlighted in the blotter were recorded in the Piedmont Police Department log from noon on Sept. 9 through noon, Sept. 13. Not all incidents recorded in the log are included here. Information was supplied by the police and does not indicate any convictions.

MONDAY, SEPT. 9

Petty theft — A GPS device was reported stolen from an unlocked vehicle on Lake Avenue.

Night delivery? — An Estates Drive resident reported that a postal vehicle was parked on the street about 10:30 p.m. with its hazard lights flashing. Police learned that the vehicle had broken down and a tow truck was on the way.

TUESDAY, SEPT. 10

Stolen car — An Acura Legend was stolen from Crocker Avenue sometime between 9:30 Monday night and 10:30 a.m. Tuesday.

Stolen windows — Old windows were stolen from a home on Greenbank Avenue that was undergoing remodeling. A neighbor reported seeing two men taking items from the home in the early evening, but when police checked, they found the house locked up and apparently secure. However, the contractor confirmed the next morning that windows had been taken from the site.

WEDNESDAY, SEPT. 11

One car stolen, another recovered — Piedmont police gave a helping hand to the Oakland Police Department, taking a a report on a dark green Honda Accord stolen from Estates Drive. A short time later, and nearby, Piedmont officers located a Honda Prelude that had been reported stolen.

Home burglary — Jewelry was stolen from a home on Dracena Avenue between 1 and 4:30 p.m. Police said drawers in the master bedroom were found open, but nothing else appeared to have been disturbed. There were no signs of forced entry, so it's possible a door was left unlocked, police said.

THURSDAY, SEPT. 12

Suspicious circumstances — A caller reported that an older man wearing a white hat was taking white containers out of a van about 12:45 p.m. on Fairview Avenue. The gentleman is making wine in a nearby resident's garage, police learned.

FRIDAY, SEPT. 13

Petty theft — An Oakland Avenue resident reported being awakened about 5:20 a.m. by someone rifling through a vehicle parked behind the house. The thief, a man, then left the area on foot. Someone also rifled through vehicles parked on Olive and Jerome avenues the same morning.
