Police Blotter: Suspicious Filmmakers, Auto Theft, DUI Arrest

The weekend police log.

Incidents highlighted in the blotter were recorded in the Piedmont Police Department log from noon on Dec. 6 through noon, Dec. 9. Not all incidents recorded in the log are included here. Information was supplied by the police and does not indicate any convictions.

FRIDAY, DEC. 6

Suspicious circumstances — A caller reported just before 6 p.m. that a tan SUV with people inside had been parked on Monticello Avenue for about two hours. Police determined that the occupants of the SUV were part of a group shooting a film nearby.

SATURDAY, DEC. 7

Auto theft — A suspected car thief was arrested after a caller reported hearing someone drive a vehicle into their front yard about 3:40 a.m., followed by the sound of car doors opening and closing. The abandoned vehicle had been stolen, although the theft hadn't yet been reported. A suspect was located on Piedmont Avenue and taken into custody. Police located the registered owner of the vehicle, who retrieved it.

Auto recovery — Police found a stolen Acura parked in a red zone at the corner of Estates Drives and Sandringham Road about 9:40 a.m.

Residential burglary — Burglars used a scam to gain entry to a home on Magnolia Avenue and steal cash and a jewelry box. See "Piedmont Woman Victim of 'Backyard' Burglary Scam" for details.

SUNDAY, DEC. 8

DUI arrest — A woman was arrested on suspicion of driving while intoxicated after a police officer spotted her vehicle being driven on its rims on Grand Avenue about 2:30 a.m. The vehicle had collided with a traffic light in Oakland, police determined.
