Lighting Up the Grand Avenue Entrance Pillar

A $5,000 donation from the Piedmont Garden Club will help pay for the lighting.

A lantern atop the historic entrance pillar at the junction of Grand and Lower Grand avenues will eventually shine on those entering Piedmont, according to an article in The Piedmonter.

It will be the first time the lantern has actually been lit since the pillar was installed around 1911, the article says.

The lighting, and other improvements at the pillar site, are being helped along by a recent $5,000 donation from the Piedmont Garden Club.

The city also hopes to install protective measures at the site, which has been repeatedly hit by inebriated or otherwise confused drivers.
