Work Starts on Ramona Ronada Triangle Next Week

Construction is about to commence on the long-awaited traffic-calming project.

Construction on the Ramona Ronada Triangle project will begin Monday, July 29, according to a notice from the City of Piedmont's Public Works Department.

The first phase of construction should be completed by Sept. 16, according to construction manager Jessica Long.

That phase includes removing existing asphalt, installing new curbs and gutters, and constructing the hardscape elements — pedestrian stone walkways, a built-in stone seating area and a curb ramp. Traffic safety improvements are also included in this phase.

Residents in the construction area will have access to their homes, but street parking may be restricted near the construction zone.

Phase 1 work will be performed by Cleary Brothers of Danville, a construction company that has worked on several previous City of Piedmont projects over the past decade. Cleary Brothers is receiving $116,867 for its work, the largest part of the project's $138,554 budget.

Phase 2 of the project, which includes Mediterranean-style landscaping and installation of a water meter and irrigation system, is expected to begin in early fall. That work will be performed by a combination of city staff and outside contractors.

Anyone with questions or who has special circumstances that could be affected by the construction may contact Jessica Long at (707) 571-8005.

The project is a landscaped triangular peninsula meant to slow traffic and improve pedestrian safety at the intersection o Ramona and Ronada avenues, which is on a route often used by drivers as a shortcut from Moraga Avenue to Grand Avenue. It will serve to shorten a crosswalk at the corner. You may read more about the project's history here.
