Homecoming Prep: Learn the 'Piedmont Fight Song'

"We eat thistles for our breakfast, granite for our lunch..."

Tune up your vocal chords, PHS football fans — the "Piedmont Fight Song" is coming back.

The rousing tune was a long-time Piedmont High School tradition, dating back probably to the early part of the 20th century, but it's been missing from the PHS marching band's repertoire in recent years.

No more! Band members have been practicing from sheet music so they can perform the fight song at Friday night's homecoming game, according to football publicity chair Sara Cumbelich, who's been working hard to promote the game and surrounding activities. (Psst ... she's also the mom of #44.)

Hoping for a spirited sing-along from PHS fans, homecoming organizers have printed the words to the song on the back of all homecoming T-shirts and on the reverse of the player roster for the game.

The words are printed below (so you can get a head start practicing). It's sung to the familiar tune of "Oh, Wisconsin," which you can hear in the attached video.

Piedmont Fight Song

We are Piedmont's fighting Scotsmen
Bold and bonny bunch!
We eat thistles for our breakfast,
Granite for our lunch,
Munch, munch, munch...
We are Piedmont's fighting Scotsmen,
Come from Highlands brown...
So fight, Piedmont,
Fight till every foe is down!

The varsity game, vs. Tennyson High School of Hayward, begins at 7 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 25. at Witter Field. The JV game begins at 4 p.m.
