How this month's full moon got its name, and other tidbits

Tonight's full moon (Sunday-Monday, Jan. 8-9) is the Full Wolf Moon, according to this article on msnbc.com. Each full moon of the year has its own name, most dating back to Native American traditions in the Northeast, according to the article.

Meanwhile, the moon looked full to me at 7 p.m., but technically it becomes full at 11:30 p.m. That's in Palo Alto, so it most likely applies in Piedmont as well.

And while folklore links a full moon to madness, homicides and even aggression by professional hockey players, science doesn't bear out those myths. Read more at skeptic.com.
