Piedmont High Wraps Up Accreditation Process

Accreditation team members gave an informal report Wednesday, with formal results expected in about two weeks

The accreditation process at Piedmont High School wrapped up with a "readout" Wednesday afternoon, as members of the Western Association of Schools and Collges (WASC) accrediting team shared their findings with Board of Education members, school faculty, staff, students and some parents.

It may be two weeks or so before the is officially notified of results by the WASC office, Asst. Supt. Randall Booker told school board members Wednesday night. Booker said the district is hoping for a six-year accreditation, the longest provided by WASC.

Booker said there were "no surprises" in the WASC team's report. The team's recommendations for improvements at PHS had all been identified in the school's lengthy self-study, which is a major part of the accreditation process, he said.

Those recommendations included upgrading the technology infrastructure at PHS, providing better staff training in the use of technology and increasing "goal-oriented" collaboration among staff members.

Booker said WASC team members described PHS as "hands down, a great school" with "friendly, welcoming, articulate students."

The WASC team visited PHS for three days following completion of the school's self-study. The self-report is available on the Piedmont High School website.

WASC is one of six regional bodies in the U.S. that accredit public and private schools, colleges and universities.
