Local Lecture Addresses Dealing with Chemicals in Everyday Products

A free community event aims to address chemicals in everyday products. From what they are to how folks can reduce their health risks towards them.

The League of Women Voters of Piedmont and Piedmont CONNECT, a community group supporting local efforts toward environmental sustainability, will host a free community event on April 24 addressing chemicals in everyday products: What are they? Why should we care? How can we reduce our health risks?

The event will feature Tracey Woodruff, PhD, MPH, of the University of California at San Francisco.

Dr. Woodruff will discuss chemicals and metals in common household products that have the potential to create health hazards.

Everyday household and personal care products and furnishings can contain ingredients such as lead, flame retardants and plasticizers that that pose health risks.

Dr. Woodruff will talk about the most effective approaches to prevention and how public policy impacts environmental exposures.

The lecture takes place Wednesday, April 24,at 7 p.m. at Beach Elementary School, 100 Lake Ave.
