The Star on Grand to Open Sunday

Grand Avenue's newest restaurant will serve Chicago-style deep dish pizza, salads and sandwiches.

The Star on Grand, a new pizzeria at 3425 Grand Ave., Oakland, will open for business on Sunday, according to an announcement on the restaurant's Facebook page.

The Star will specialize in Chicago-style cornmeal deep dish pizza and will offer wine, beer and a full bar, its Facebook page says. It's described as family-friendly and will provide lunch, dinner and take-out.

According to the most recent issue of the Splash Pad Newsletter, "An area at the rear of the dining-room will be partitioned off and used for birthday parties. Some of the elegant touches include custom woodwork over the bar and a set of thick glass window panes that were salvaged from the oldest library in Oakland."

The Star is operated by Little Star Pizza, which has a popular pizzeria on Solano Avenue in Albany and two more in San Francisco.

The restaurant is located in the space formerly occupied by Milano restaurant, where work has been under way for months.

While a portion of the restaurant will be reserved for walk-in customers, The Star is also accepting reservations for Sunday and later via Open Table.
