Early Morning Wake-Up Call Courtesy of Earthquake

A 3.6-magnitude temblor, centered not far from last week's batch in Berkeley, rouses Piedmonters.

The U.S. Geological Survey reported a 3.6 earthquake grumbling through the East Bay Thursday.

The early morning wake-up call originated from an area about 5 miles from Piedmont near UC Berekeley's Memorial Stadium, which is currently undergoing seismic retrofits. Residents reported feeling a sharp jolt at 5:36 a.m. from the quake with a depth of 6 miles.

BART officials slowed trains as the morning commute got underway for routine inspections of the tracks.
