City officials, PMS teachers were among those who commuted by two-wheeler on Thursday

Some cyclists were commuting from Piedmont to jobs elsewhere, some were coming from other cities to their Piedmont jobs. They converged Thursday morning at the Grand Avenue "energizer station" set up by Piedmont Connect .for Bike to Work Day

Mayor John Chiang started his bicycle commute at City Hall at 7:15, visiting the energizer station en route to the Grand Lake Theatre, where he joined a "pedal pool" of cyclists heading for downtown Oakland. Teachers John White and Ted Scherman stopped by on their way to Piedmont Middle School. Piedmont city Counci member Garrett Keating arrived by bike, Vice Mayor Margaret Fujioka on foot.

Piedmont Connect provided refreshments and free canvas tote bags filled with bike-related swag.
