Piedmont Avenue Pumpkin Patch and Haunted House Open

A Piedmont Avenue tradition is back for the 2013 Halloween season.

The Piedmont Avenue Pumpkin Patch has opened for the Halloween season at 4414 Piedmont Ave., Oakland, complete with ghoulish supplies and a kid-friendly haunted house.

The seasonal pumpkin patch (just off Pleasant Valley Avenue, next door to J. Miller Flowers and Gifts) has operated on Piedmont Avenue since 1966.

"We are starting to get the children of parents who were children when they first starting visiting us," say owners Jon Goldstein and Robbin Lee.

Along with 15 types of pumpkins, the patch sells a variety of Halloween decorations. It's open daily from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. until Halloween night. The haunted house, with a not-too-scary version for younger children, is open after school on weekdays and all day on weekends.

The Pumpkin Patch also hosts field trips from schools, preschools and nursing homes, and the owners will deliver and set up pumpkin patches at schools and other institutions in the Bay Area.

For more information, call (510) 967-9363 or visit their website or Facebook page. (The owners say you'll get free fangs if you "like" the Pumpkin Patch on Facebook.)
