House Burns on Maxwelton Road

The Oakland Fire Department also responded to the blaze.

Updated Tuesday, Sept. 24, 5:05 p.m.

The Piedmont Fire Department brought a one-alarm house fire at 150 Maxwelton Road under control in about 90 minutes this afternoon (Tuesday), the PFD reported.

The home suffered heavy damage but no injuries were reported this afternoon, fire officials said.

Sparks from the fire also ignited the roof of an adjacent home but were quickly controlled, they said.

The Oakland Fire Department also responded to assist the PPD and to provide back-up coverage at the Piedmont fire station.

The fire was reported just before 2:30 p.m. and crews were still mopping up and checking for hot spots in the late afternoon.

Fire officials said Maxwelton would be closed from Abbott Way to the Oakland city limit for several hours and asked residents to avoid the area if possible.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
