Police Blotter: Burglars Enter Through Bedroom Window, Police Chase Stolen Vehicle

Plus a dog bite incident, a stolen BMW and an auto break-in.

Incidents highlighted in the blotter were recorded in the Piedmont Police Department log from noon on Jan. 13 through noon, Jan. 17. Not all incidents recorded in the log are included here. Information was supplied by the police and does not indicate any convictions.

MONDAY, JAN. 13

Auto burglary — A leather case, canvas briefcase and old credit card were stolen from a locked vehicle parked on Abbott Way sometime during the night.

TUESDAY, JAN. 14

Stolen vehicle — A locked vehicle was stolen from a driveway on Farragut Avenue during the night.

Accident in Montclair
— A Piedmont police officer was first on the scene of a vehicle vs. pedestrian accident at La Salle and Moraga avenues close to Hwy. 13 in Montclair at 8:49 a.m. The Oakland fire and police departments were notified and responded.

Missing person — A Piedmont woman was reported missing in the evening after she failed to meet her husband in San Francisco as planned. See "Missing Piedmont Resident Jill Reese Found Dead in San Francisco" for details.

WEDNESDAY, JAN. 15

Theft — Jewelry was reported missing from a home on Dale Avenue.

Outside assist — Piedmont police assisted with a search for an armed robbery suspect near Lakeshore Avenue and Mandana Boulevard. See "Armed Man Robs Grand Lake Citibank Branch" for details of the robbery.

THURSDAY, JAN. 16

Dog bite — Two dogs were quarantined at their home after a person was bitten near the corner of Arroyo Avenue and Manor Drive about 7:30 a.m.

Petty theft — Someone rifled through a parked vehicle and stole loose change.

Stolen vehicle — Police were alerted to a stolen vehicle noted near Moraga Avene and Harbord Drive by the city's license plate reader system but were unable to catch it. The stolen vehicle hit another vehicle near Estates Drive and Park Boulevard while fleeing.

Identity theft — Someone opened several credit card accounts in a Piedmont resident's name without authorization.

Residential burglary — A neighbor alerted police to suspicious activity at a home on Oakland Avenue after seeing people dressed in black and carrying flashlights inside the home about 6:40 p.m. Police said the burglars apparently entered through a bedroom window but were gone when police arrived.

FRIDAY, JAN. 17

Stolen vehicle — A silver BMW was stolen from King Avenue sometime during the night.
