Police Blotter: Burglary, Interrupted

An Oakmont Avenue resident arrived home just about the time that a burglar was leaving her house.

Incidents highlighted in the blotter were recorded in the Piedmont Police Department log Dec. 17-24. Information was supplied by the police and does not indicate any convictions.

An Oakmont Avenue woman arrived home shortly before 6:30 p.m. on Dec. 20, apparently interrupting a burglar at work, according to police reports. Police said the thief entered through a bedroom window and stole a Rolex watch and a man's ring before fleeing in a black sedan.

The woman and her husband had just parked their vehicle in a garage behind their home when she spotted the burglar in the master bedroom, PPD Detective George Phifer said Thursday morning.

The woman began screaming as her husband dialed 911 on his cellphone, police said.

The burglar, who was apparently working alone, fled to his car and escaped, Phifer said.

MONDAY, DEC. 17

Identity theft — A Moraga Avenue resident reported an instance of identity theft.

TUESDAY, DEC. 18

Playfield break-in — Someone broke into the girls' bathroom at Beach Playfield, damaging a metal latch on the door.

Burglary — Burglars hit a house under construction in the 1000 block of Harvard Road during the night.

Identity theft — A Bonita Avenue resident reported being the victim of identty theft.

Grand theft — Someone stole the contents of a package that was delivered to a home in the 300 block of Scenic Avenue.

WEDNESDAY, DEC. 19

Suspicious circumstances — A resident of the 100 block of Somerset Road reported at 8:32 a.m that he heard a yell, followed by what sounded like four gunshots. Police were unable to locate the source of the noise.

Vehicle burglaries — Several Parkside Drive residents reported that someone had rifled through their vehicles.

THURSDAY, DEC. 20

Grand theft — Jewelry ws reported stolen from an unlocked vehicle in the 600 block of Moraga Avenue, probably Saturday or Sunday night.

Petty theft — A package was stolen from the porch on a home in the 300 block of El Cerrito Avenue. The thief left the empty box behind.

Vehcle theft — A Toyota pick-up with a camper shell was stolen from La Salle Avenue in the early evening.

FRIDAY, DEC. 21

Identity theft — A resident of St. James Drive reported that someone applied for credit cards in his name, then made charges on the cards.

Possible gunshots — A resident of Stark Knoll Place reported hearing gunshots in the cemetery at 10:51 p.m.

SATURDAY, DEC. 22

Vehicle theft — An auto was stolen from Crest Road sometime between Wednesday and Saturday.

SUNDAY, DEC. 23

Vandalism — Someone through a cement rabbit through a back window of a home in the 300 block of Hillside Avenue during the afternoon.
