Police Blotter: Four Residential Burglaries

Plus lots of vehicle break-ins and some chickens who took a hike.

Incidents highlighted in the blotter were recorded in the Piedmont Police Department log Dec. 31-Jan 7. Information was supplied by the police and does not indicate any convictions.

MONDAY, DEC. 31

Stolen car — A tan Honda Accord was stolen from the 200 block of Sunnyside Avenue sometime between Friday and about 5:30 p.m. today.

WEDNESDAY, JAN. 2

Warrant arrest — A resident of the 1600 block of Lower Grand Avenue reported at 5:59 a.m. that someone had just tried to steal her Honda. When police responded, they located and questioend a man nearby. The man had an outstanding no-bail felony warrant for vehicle theft, police said. He was arrested and taken to the Glenn Dyer Jail in Oakland.

Auto burglaries — At 10:05 a.m., a resident of the first block of York Drive reported that someone broke into her locked vehicle during the night. At 11:52 a.m., a resident of the 100 block of Lake Avenue reported that some broke into her car overnight and apparently tried to steal it.

Pot theft — An Olive Drive resident reported that someone stole three flowerpots from her porch sometime between Dec. 28 and Jan. 1.

Residential burglary — A burglar broke into a home in the 200 block of El Cerrito Avenue and vandalized it, the resident reported at 1:46 p.m.

THURSDAY, JAN. 3

Garage burglary — Someone stole a garage door opener from a vehicle parked in the 100 block of St. James Drive, then used it to enter the garage and steal bicycles and clothing. The burglary was reported at 10:34 a.m.

Vehicle recovery — The Berkeley Police Department located a vehicle stolen from Piedmont and released it to the owner. The PPD was notified at 5:05 p.m.

Cell phone theft — A cell phone was stolen from a park bench about 6 p.m.

FRIDAY, JAN. 4

Auto burglaries— A resident of the 300 block of Magnolia Avenue reported that someone stole a GPS device and loose change from her locked vehicle during the night. A GPS and change were also stolen from a vehicle in the 200 block of Ricardo Avenue overnight. Someone rifled through a vehicle in the first block of Nace Avenue between 5:15 and 6 p.m. and stole loose change.

Vehicle recoveries — The California Highway Patrol located two vehicles reported stolen from Piedmont, one in Oakland and one in the San Francisco area. Owners of both vehicles were notified.

SATURDAY, JAN. 5

Auto burglary — A thief smashed a passenger-side window of a vehicle in the 100 block of Wallace Road and stole a backpack. The incident was reported at 10:19 a.m.

Fraud — A Sunnyside Avenue resident reported that someone made fraudulent charges on her work credit card.

Assault — An assault in he 400 block of Highland Avenue was reported at 2:50 p.m. Details were not immediately available.

SUNDAY, JAN. 6

Auto burglary — A Cambridge Way resident reported seeing a man in her neighbor's car at 5:32 a.m.

They flew the coop — An Inverleigh Terrace resident reported two chickens walking down Estates Drive at 12:21 p.m. The hens apparently escaped from the caller's yard and decided to take a stroll. An animal control officer responded.

Residential burglaries — Home burglaries were reported in the 300 block of Pala Avenue and the 1000 block of Harvard Road.

Noise at night — A Wildwood Gardens resident reported hearing a crashing sound at 11:08 p.m. The noise was caused by a picture falling off a wall, police said.
