Police Blotter: Home Burglary, Car Break-Ins, Deer on the Road

Home burglary, vehicle break-ins and plenty of deer on the roads.

Incidents highlighted in the blotter were recorded in the Piedmont Police Department log from noon on Nov. 4 through noon, Nov. 8. Not all incidents recorded in the log are included here. Information was supplied by the police and does not indicate any convictions.
Drive carefully, everyone, especially at night — lots of deer reported in Piedmont recently, including some that were dead or severely injured. According to this Bay Nature article on our native Bay Area deer, it's the season when bucks may not look both ways before crossing a road in search of female companionship. This year's lack of rainfall could also be driving more deer into residential neighborhoods to forage for food.

MONDAY, NOV. 4

Residential burglary — A burglar smashed glass panes on exterior doors to gain entry to a home on Grand Avenue. See "Burglar Armed with Rock Breaks into Grand Avenue Home" for details.

TUESDAY, NOV 5

Poky little puppy — A Magnolia Avenue resident reported a small black-and-white dog — not theirs — in the backyard by the pool in the early afternoon.

Auto burglaries — A soccer backpack was reported stolen from a vehicle parked on Grand Avenue. Someone also rifled through another vehicle parked on Grand.

WEDNESDAY, NOV. 6

Break-in attempt — A Bonita Avenue resident reported a possible burglary attempt during the night after discovering damage to the home's rear door in the morning.

Suspicious circumstances — A La Salle Avenue resident reported that a man wearing a white cap and jeans was "looking at houses" while walking down the hill a few minutes after 5 p.m.

THURSDAY, NOV. 7

DUI arrest — Police checked on a man seen "hunched over" in a red pickup truck stopped with the motor running on Highland Avenue about 2:30 a.m. The man failed a field sobriety test and was arrested on suspicion of driving while intoxicated, police said.
