Police Blotter: One Burglary, Three Accidents – and Those Cars Without Permits

Incidents highlighted in the blotter were recorded in the Piedmont Police Department log March 12-18. Information was supplied by the police and does not indicate any convictions.

Alert Piedmont residents notified the Piedmont Police Department of 17 possible parking violations this week, mostly for parking in a residential area without a permit or for facing in the wrong direction. The PPD issued six citations and eight warnings.

MONDAY, MARCH 12

Parking complaint – A truck delivering school lunches was blocking a fire hydrant at Highland and Vista avenues, a City Hall caller complained at 12:42 p.m.. The truck moved before a police officer arrived.

TUESDAY, MARCH 13

Fetch! – An Artuna Avenue resident told the PPD at 9 a.m. that people were throwing balls for their dogs in Dracena Park, something the caller felt was not good for the park's lawns. It is, however, legal.

Stolen vehicle – A resident of the the first block of Ronada Avenue reported at 11:33 a.m. that his Honda Civic had been stolen.

Road rage – A woman was arrested on a warrant for a minor traffic violation after police were called to the scene of a possible "road rage" incident on Wildwood Gardens about 6:30 p.m. She was issued a new court date and released.

WEDNESDAY, MARCH 14

Found wallet – A Highland Avenue resident reported at 12:18 p.m. that she found a wallet in the gutter in front of her home.

Injury accident – One person was taken by ambulance for emergency treatment after an accident near the intersection of Wildwood and Crocker avenues just before 2:30 p.m. Two vehicles had to be towed.

Flooding – A Prospect Road resident reported flooding in front of her home at 5:39 p.m. Public Works personnel were notified.

Power outage – Several Piedmont residents reported a power outage shortly before midnight.

THURSDAY, MARCH 15

Minor injuries – One person was slightly injured in a bike vs. vehicle accident at Wildwood and Grand Avenues, but refused medical aid. The accident occurred just outside the city limits, but the Oakland Police Department did not have a unit available to respond, according to the PPD report.

Tree down – A tree fell on Hampton Court about 3 p.m., bringing down power lines. Public Works and Piedmont Fire Department personnel responded.

Hit and run – One driver left the scene after a two-car collision near Moraga Avenue and Red Rock Road about 7:35 p.m. The fleeing car was described as an older, dark green small sedan.

Possible gunshots – A caller reported hearing what sounded like five gunshots near Trestle Glen Road and Park Boulevard just before 10 p.m. Police were unable to locate the source of the sounds.

FRIDAY, MARCH 16

Woman found – A caller reported at 2:08 a.m. that his girlfriend was possibly suicidal and heading for a bridge. Piedmont police located the young woman about 3:30 a.m. near the intersection of Highland Way and Highland Avenue and called for an ambulance.

Residential burglary – A resident of the first block of La Salle Avenue reported that someone ransacked his garage sometime between noon and 4:30 p.m. Investigators found that the burglar also entered the house through a small window and took an iPad, two iPods and some jewelry.

Backpack found – A caller reported finding a yellow and black backpack with a child's game inside in or near Piedmont Park.

Traffic hazard – A rock slide was reported near Zion Lutheran Church about 7:30 p.m.

SUNDAY, MARCH 18

Injured animal – An injured raccoon found on Somerset Road about 10:30 a.m. was taken to the Berkeley Animal shelter by an animal control officer.
