Police Capture 2 Burglary Suspects Based on Neighbor's Tip

The arrests of a man and a woman followed an early-evening burglary on Scenic Avenue Wednesday.

Piedmont police arrested a man and a woman on suspicion of burglary Wednesday after a local resident reported seeing a suspicious person leaving the backyard of a neighbor's home, according to a Piedmont Police Department press release issued Thursday afternoon.

Police officers converged on the 100 block of Scenic Avenue about 7 p.m. and Officer David Cutler spotted a person matching the neighbor's description getting into a vehicle nearby, police said.

Cutler followed the vehicle as it drove off and stopped it a short distance away, assisted by Officers Tom Kincaid and Joe Garcia, police said.

Meanwhile, Officers Jeff Spranza and Curtis Selseth went to the original home and confirmed a burglary had occurred, police said.

Evidence found in the suspects' vehicle and at the scene of the burglary linked the man and woman to the crime, police said.

Eriberto Montano, 34, and Simone Aguilar, 40, were arrested and later jailed at the Glenn Dyer Detention Facility in Oakland, the press release said.

Anyone with information or inquiries about the case may contact Detective George Phifer or Detective Bob Coffey at (510) 420-3010.
