Police Release More Details About Wave of Burglaries

Ten residential burglaries reported in Piedmont this month.

Police Friday reported more details about the recent wave of burglaries in Piedmont.

s because of a rash of burglaries apparently connected with strangers knocking on doors in various neighborhoods in town.

Police Chief John Hunt III said there have been 10 residential burglaries since April 1. “Since burglars usually stick to specific types of property they like to steal … not all these burglaries are related though the ones from April 18 to April 27 could be related,” the chief wrote in an email.

He gave the following breakdown:

  • April 1 — Dale Avenue, unknown items taken.
  • April 1 — Moraga Avenue, unknown items taken.
  • April 12 — Grand Avenue, jewelry stolen.
  • April 18   — Fairview Avenue, a Mini Cooper auto and a computer were stolen and there were reports of two black males involved; Piedmont police reported the auto stolen. Later that day, the Mini Cooper was involved in a crash in San Francisco, two black males reported running from the scene and the stolen computer found in the auto.
  • April 20 — Nellie Avenue, unknown items taken.
  • April 22 — Cambridge Way, electronics taken in early evening.
  • April 25 — Pacific Avenue, watch stolen; a resident at home sick heard the knock on the door and later the noises of a break-in.
  • April 25 — Blair Avenue, electronics taken.
  • April 27 — Sunnyside Avenue, electronics taken; a woman on Olive Avenue saw two black males knocking on neighbors’ doors.
  • April 27 — LaSalle Avenue, electronics taken; a woman on St. James Circle reports a black male came to her door and ran off when her dog started barking.

 Police are asking residents to report any activity that might involve casing a neighborhood for easy targets, including license plate numbers, clothing and car descriptions, and suspects’ direction of flight.
