Reading — Still Legal in Piedmont?

A highlight from the Piedmont Police Department log.

From the Piedmont Police Department log of Sept. 5, this terse entry:

"Suspicious circumstances. Grand Avenue. 2 females reading books."

Police Captain Scott Wyatt said an anonymous caller phoned in the tip to police at 9:17 p.m. last Thursday.

The suspicious readers were said to be in the 1200 block of Grand Avenue (the block where Grand Lake Ace Hardware is located). Nighttime lighting in that area is good and probably sufficient for reading, Wyatt said.

Officers did not make a formal report on the incident and most likely the tip was simply passed along to patrol officers as beat information, Wyatt said.
