Smoke in Hills Blowing in From Fairfield-Suisun Fire

East Bay fire departments are reporting that heavy smoke in the Oakland Hills this afternoon is blowing in from a grass fire in the Suisin City area of Solano County and is not from any local fire.

The Piedmont Fire Department has received many calls about the smoke and says in a CodeRED message, "Please call 911 ONLY if you see active flames or rising smoke in your area."

The large grass fire was reported this afternoon near state Highway 12 in the Suisun City area, a Cal Fire official said.

The fire was reported to the California Highway Patrol shortly after noon near Highway 12 and Scally Road. The fire has reached around 200 acres, the Cal Fire official said.

As of shortly after 1:40 p.m., the CHP reported the fire was traveling south and was prompting multiple reports of smoke drifting into Contra Costa County.

By 2:30 p.m. the fire had reportedly reached eight alarms and clouds of smoke were blowing over the Oakland and Berkeley hills.
