Board of Education Approves PUSD Budget

Also: Roy Tolles' last meeting as board president and a registration day for students new to the district.

They came, they saw, they voted — Piedmont Board of Education members gave a 4-0 nod of approval (with board member Sarah Pearson absent) to the 's 2012-2013 budget in a brisk and efficient meeting Wednesday night.

Michael Brady, the district's assistant superintendent for business services, noted that school districts are required to adopt a budget for the coming fiscal year by June 30, even though the California legislature had not yet adopted a state budget for 2012-2013. The state is the major source of funding for local school districts.

That means PUSD must revise its budget within 45 days of state budget approval, and the revised budget will return to the board for approval, most likely at its August meeting, Brady said.

You can read more about the budget in this article and see the budget itself on the PUSD website (a large .pdf file).

Wednesday's meeting was the last to be chaired by current Board President Roy Tolles, who will be absent from the board's single meeting in July. New board officers will be elected at that meeting. Tolles will continue to serve on the board after leaving the presidency.

PUSD Superintendent Constance Hubbard noted at the meeting that the district will hold registration for new students who have recently moved to Piedmont Aug. 2 at . For details, call the district office at 510-594-2600.
