Letter to the Editor: Moraga Gully (aka Blair Park and Moraga Canyon)

Piedmont resident Jane Cullinan writes about the width of Moraga Avenue

So the City Council is OK with slicing narrow Moraga Ave. in half? Right now it's over 50 feet wide in some areas, and at least 37 feet in others. Soon it'll be just 25 feet across between Coaches' Field and Maxwelton?

No bike lane, so good luck, cyclists, if cars try to pass you. And good luck, emergency vehicles responding to the new field. This major artery will shut down every time a soccer kid turns an ankle. God forbid citizens need newly-narrowed Moraga as an evacuation route.

And we learn this on December 5, 2011?

Combine all this with the 20 foot roadside cliff this project creates, and we won't bicker about whether it's "Blair Park" or "Moraga Canyon." It'll become Moraga Gully. Or maybe Moraga Mineshaft.

By the way, who pays to shrink Moraga Ave.? That doesn't seem to be in the plan. Is the City of Piedmont on the hook for major road construction?
