Piedmont School Board Looks at Cutting Four Classified Positions

Resolution is on Wednesday evening agenda for the board.

The Piedmont school board faces a resolution Wednesday to reduce or discontinue four full-time equivalent classified positions as it continues to tighten the budget in anticipation of revenue bad news from Sacramento.

The Piedmont Unified School District board meets in a closed session at 6 p.m. Wednesday to discuss negotiations with employees' unions, with the open session due to begin at 7 p.m. at the City Council Chambers, 120 Vista Ave., Piedmont.

The reduced positions include an attendance secretary, counseling secretary and library aide at Piedmont High and a library aide at Piedmont Middle School.

The district expects soon to get some state guidance in the form of the governor’s “May Revise,” with mid-year adjustments in revenue projects and formulas. The school board is due to adopt a 2011-12 budget on June 22. Typically, this will be based on a projected state budget and require adjustment after the state finalizes its budget.

The board’s multi-year project contemplates the 2010-11 budget of $29.75 million in expenditures, dropping slightly to $28.97 million in 2011-12 and back up to $29.35 million the following year.
