Poll: Will Your City Tax Vote Depend on Blair Park?

The Municipal Tax Review Committee is debating what guarantees to recommend the city put in place to ensure the sports fields development does not become a new expense for taxpayers.

The members of the Municipal Tax Review Committee agree that the city needs to renew the municipal services parcel tax in order to make ends meet through 2016-2017. They also agree the city needs to get a handle on spending.

In light of the Piedmont Hills undergrounding debacle, in which the city got stuck with the bill for $2 million in overruns for what was supposed to be paid for entirely with private funding, the development and maintenance of a new sports fields at Blair Park—also being backed by a private group that has promised to cover all costs—is on the committee's list of possible pitfalls.

The commitee is debating what they should recommend in their tax endorsement that City Council do to address the issue.
