Pedal Power: Ride Oakland Cycling Studio to Open on Piedmont Ave.

The new indoor cycling studio had its genesis in a Crocker Highlands garage.

Ride Oakland, an indoor cycling studio that's a spin-off from a local home-based business, will open Monday, Nov. 25, at 4448 Piedmont Ave. Oakland.

Thee's an open house Friday, Nov. 22, from 6 to 8 p.m. The public is invited to meet the owners and instructors and take a spin on one of the studio's 24 state-of-the-art bikes.

Co-founder Deb Collard has operated Garagespin, a small indoor cycling studio, in her Crocker Highlands garage for the past three years. Now she's teamed up with Helen Saunders to open a larger studio in a commercial space. Both are certified spin instructors; Collard is also a licensed physical therapist.

One of Ride Oakland's first instructors is Piedmont resident Amy Gately, who has taught spinning for more than six years and also teaches at the Club at the Claremont.

The studio welcomes both beginners and experienced spinners.

"We want our studio to feel personal and our clients to feel welcome no matter what fitness level they are," Collard said in a press release.

Ride Oakland will offer classes between 5:45 a.m. and 7 p.m. Offerings will include Intro Ride (new riders), Ultimate Ride (signature class with weights), Just Ride (cycling only), Extended Ride (longer) and Teen Ride (for the 13-19 year old set).

The studio also plans to offer special events throughout the year, including private cycling parties.

Babysitting will be available for a small fee during designated classes.
