ABC7 Features Piedmont Boy Scouts' Food Drive

The annual door-to-door campaign starts this weekend.

As part of ABC7's "Beyond the Headlines" program on hunger, which aired Oct. 30, Piedmont Scout Master Mark Christiansen and Boy Scout James Clifford plugged the upcoming Scouting for Food drive. Watch Christiansen and Clifford starting at the 13:29 mark.

The door-to-door food drive started 23 years ago, Christiansen explained, with boys from 1st to 12th grade collecting food in their neighborhoods for the needy nearby. Clifford described it as a good leadership opportunity and a way to give back to the community. The Piedmont scouts are gathering everything from peanut butter to pasta for the Alameda County Community Food Bank.

Scouts will be distributing fliers in Piedmont Saturday, Nov. 12,  listing what types of food items they're looking to collect. The following Saturday, Nov. 19, scouts will go door-to-door to pick up donations from doorsteps.

A virtual food drive has already begun through the Piedmont Boy Scout Council's website, www.piedmontbsa.org.
