Weed Pullers Wanted: Work Day at Splash Pad Park

Help pull weeds and plant California natives on April 22

Help freshen up Splash Pad Park (between Grand and Lakeshore Avenues adjacent to Highway 580, where the Grand Lake Farmers' Market is held) on Sunday, April 22.

Organizers are looking for volunteers to pull weeds, do a bit of pruning and help plant California natives from 9 a.m. to noon. Tools will be provided. Advance sign-ups are requested so there will be enough tools available.

They are also looking for someone who can arrange in advance for food and drink beverages to refresh the hard-workin volunteers.

"Hundreds of California Native Irises are currently in bloom at Splash Pad Park but, unfortunately, they're lost in a sea of weeds that have engulfed all of the planting beds ... The net result is a park that no longer looks like the pristine version that was featured in countless magazine and newspaper articles extolling Landscape Architect Walter Hood," writes Ken Katz in the most recent Splash Pad Newsletter.
