Piedmont City Council to Move Ahead on Recruiting New City Administrator

The council meets on Tuesday evening.

The Piedmont City Council meets Tuesday, Sept. 3, at 7:30 p.m. in the City Hall council chambers, 120 Vista Ave. The relatively short agenda includes a a request to authorize up to $30,000 to hire an executive search firm to recruit candidates for the position of city administrator. Current Administrator Geoffrey Grote is retiring in February. The search firm will be selected by a council subcommittee consisting of Mayor John Chiang and Vice Mayor Margaret Fujioka.

Also on the agenda: A request from Police Chief Rikki Goede for the council to support a resolution that will be voted upon at a League of California Cities meeting Sept. 20. The resolution asks Gov. Jerry Brown and the state legislature to discuss public safety realignment police with the League and the California Police Chiefs Association. Realignment is the policy shifting much responsibility for prisoners and former prisoners from the state prison system to local authorities.

During closed session before the public portion of the meeting, council members will confer with negotiators about a contract with the Piedmont Police Officers' Association. They will also confer with legal counsel about initiating litigation in an unspecified case.
